The first weekend in September is always when the Northern Area PGM Ladies weekend is held. A tradition going back some twenty years now and is hosted by a different Province each year. This year it was North Wales with Peter and Susan Talbot the PGM and his lady organising the event.
We stayed at the Nant-Yr-Odyn Hotel in Llangefni Anglesey, a small hotel with fourteen rooms , fortunately we had the entire place to our selves although there were only eight PGM’s and their ladies this year. Peter followed the usual format of a get together on the Friday afternoon which gives the ladies time to catch up on their news and of course make new friends as there is usually a new face or two such is the speed of change nowadays. Dinner on the Friday evening is a quite informal and then on the Saturday the hosts always organise a trip to places of interest in their area. This year we left the Hotel by coach at 9.30am to go to Rhyd Dou where we journeyed by steam train on the Snowdonia narrow gauge railway to Porthmadog through the beautiful Snowdonia national park. The coach met us all there and we then after having stopped at a very pleasant pub for a light lunch we travelled to Caernafon. A local character rejoicing in the name of Emyrs Jones gave us a guided tour of the old part of the city round the castle area which was very interesting made all the more so by Emyrs as he was a very nationalistic Welshman and very proud of his city and his heritage.
Dinner that evening was a little more formal and, I gave the vote of thanks to Peter and Susan and announced that next year our hosts would be Keith and Susan Hodson of Cumberland and Westmoreland. We all parted company on Sunday morning after enjoying a superb weekend in excellent company and looking forward to the same event next year.
