Vacancies have now arisen at ELMBFs purpose-built development and here’s a report from one of its long-term residents, WBro Geoff Bleackley – Canons Close is a small enclave of bungalows and flats in Smithills, Bolton. I have lived here with my wife for 22 years,
it is a very friendly development where everyone looks out
for their neighbour . I think we are settled in now !
The properties are set in lovely lawned gardens and are on
a bus route and very handy for shops and the park.
ELMBF have gone out of their way to ensure that all needs are met,
installing a stair lift in Barlow House and in each of the upstairs flats
and the Pastoral side of the Order is always there to give support.
There is a Residents Social Group which meets once a month when
there may be a quiz, a speaker or just a celebration of a birthday.
Lunches are sometimes organised eg: Wartime Packed Lunch,
Farmhouse Lunch, Souper Tuesday and a Wimbledon afternoon,
(no tennis – just strawberries and cream !).
A Magician came one day, but sadly could not make all our aches and pains disappear.
As at all Masonic events there is always a Raffle and all money raised
goes to the residents adopted charity “The Legacy Rainbow House”
which provides life changing support for children with disabilities.
There are many forms around the ground to sit and chat, or simply
to drink in the birdsong and the tranquility while putting the
world to rights with a friend.
Geoff Bleackley.
