Mark Weekend in York 2013

2631759-Park-Inn-By-Radisson-York-City-Centre-Hotel-Exterior-2-DEFThe Park Inn by Radisson, York, was the venue for the weekend, from Friday 2nd August until Sunday morning of 4th August 2013. The hotel is in York City Centre right on the river within site of the

Minster and only 10 minutes’ walk away.

The weekend commenced with a wine reception in the Regatta Suite adjacent to the Bar, providing an opportunity to meet and socialise with old and new friends, followed by a private Dinner Dance in the Henley Suite.  As the weather was warm and muggy the Provincial Grand Master decided that we would dispense with jackets and ties to make for a more comfortable evening.

Everyone gathered for a group photo on the stairs and then tucked in to a splendid meal accompanied by the odd glass of wine.     cyork-2013-260-jpg

Following the meal the DJ’s took over and provided a wide selection of music which managed to fill the dance floor for the rest of the night.

Saturday

On the Saturday everyone went off to visit the various attractions around York. The Railway Museum was popular and trips around the Minster were also well attended, the trips on the river proved equally popular with many people going for the 1 hour cruise. There was also some shopping to be done, somebody even bought a heavy casserole dish and lugged it back to the hotel.

We met up in the Bar at 7.15pm, prior to departing for the restaurant, as the restaurant was within easy walking distance  each couple was  given a set of clues to follow, hopefully to get to the restaurant for the Italian meal by 8.15pm.

The object of the exercise was to spot a number of cats in various locations along the route; those who were shopped out and footsore and wanted to go by taxi were given directions after the others had left.

vecchia-scuola-yorkEveryone eventually found their way to the restaurant, La Vecchia Scuola were we had the Conservatory to ourselves. It was another warm evening and the Conservatory had just the right atmosphere and was an ideal location for us all to be together. Our meals had been pre ordered and the staff worked hard to make sure the large number of drinks and meals were delivered with as little delay as possible.  The food was excellent and was accompanied by music from the resident pianist who was in the next room.

At the end of the evening the P.G.M. thanked everyone for coming and everyone agreed we had had yet another successful and enjoyable weekend.
